Border Crossing: If you intend to visit another country outside the borders of Hungary you will need to obtain a Border Crossing Permit. This is for both legal and insurance purposes and you will often be asked to produce your permit at a border checkpoint. You may also risk a substantial fine if you cannot produce such a document and it may also affect the insurance cover on your car.
