Alternatív gyalogtúra
The tour starts in the centre of the city but quickly heads away from the main tourist hangouts and stumbles into Budapest’s Jewish district, where Budapest’s alternative culture is really kicking off. Just like East Berlin after the fall of the wall, Budapest’s uncared for districts are becoming the in places to be.
We learn about and visit squats, arts and culture centres, abandoned synagogues, street art galleries and make a quick stop for a coffee in an art and coffee collective or a ruin bar cum community centre/bike workshop/analogue photography gallery.
We then snake our way through the 8th and 9th districts which were formally areas of the working class society under the old regime where we gain a insight into Budapest’s social policies and their effects on the local residents and their districts, hear about the only bar in Budapest with protected art on its walls, learn about the most famous playground in the world and visit the venue where Budapest’s underground scene started.
The final leg of the tour takes us across the Danube to the Buda side of the city where we get an insider’s look at a former Ukrainian cargo ship which has been reincarnated into one of Budapest’s most important cultural centres and hottest live music venues, where guests can pick the brain of the guide.
If you want to get a different perspective and to understand what really makes today’s Budapest tick, be adventurous and come on a tour with us to see it first hand!
